Pewter Art Design

You will cut out the pewter art design, the shadow box’s focal point.
There are two options available for the shadow boxes. The first option is a 5 x 5-inch shadow box, and the second is a 4 x 6-inch shadow box. Once you decide on the shadow box and design, you will start the workshop by painting the shadow box. By the way, there is also the option of leaving the shadow box the natural wood color.
After tracing the design onto the pewter sheet, you will use simple handheld tools for the embossing. We will review the process of the three basic metal embossing techniques: engraving, low-relief (also referred to as embossing), and high relief.
You will decide which of the three techniques to use for your pewter art design or which combination will work. Choose between the chemical process, which involves corrosion and polishing after, or a non-chemical way of patina. The non-chemical way, blackening or faux patina, uses water-based permanent markers. With your design completed and filled with beeswax, you will age it with a patina.
After the patina process, you will add color to your design; however, you might not want to add color to some designs. You will mostly use alcohol inks, but other choices will be available. After coloring, you will cut out your design and glue it into the shadow box to complete your pewter art shadow box.
