Designing your Decorative Frame

During this three-hour workshop, you will play around with the placement of your metal on the wide mirror frame, also where to expose the tissue paper.
There will be very little hand embossing within this project or workshop. For the most part, embossing for the small decorative wall mirrors uses embossing folders. You will place the metal into the embossing folder and run the embossing folder with metal through a Cuttlebug. There will be a variety of embossing folders available to choose from; however, you are more than welcome to bring your embossing folders to use. Note: Please make sure they are marked when you bring your embossing folders.
After embossing the metal, you will move on to the next step of the small decorative wall mirrors, working on designs to add to the mirror frame. These designs are for the tissue paper areas. There are a variety of options or techniques to use for these designs. As per the example, they will be in a contrasting color. These metals are color-coated aluminum. Choices for the colored aluminum are green, blue, red, or copper. Sanding off the top color will expose the silver color below: this can create exciting effects on the small decorative wall mirrors. By the way, you don’t need to sand off the color; you can also use a permanent black water-based marker to add blackening, the same as with the embossed metal.
Techniques choices creating these accent pieces or embellishments to place on the mirror frame are using stamps, texture plates, or embossing folders. You will cut out the design before placing it onto the tissue paper. Finally, raising these accent pieces from the frame will add focal points.
So, how do you make a plain mirror look good? Decorate it with metals using metal embossing techniques and add a finishing touch by wrapping the sides with embossed metal tape.
